Corrosion Under Insulation and Spray-on Insulation Coatings Market
The processing industries face a persistent, severe, and expensive threat from corrosion under insulation (CUI). Any metal production machinery (tanks, pipes, etc.) that is frequently heated, humidified, and exposed to different chemicals is prone to corrosion. Corrosion that takes place on insulation-covered equipment is particularly hazardous since it frequently remains undetected until significant damage has already taken place because it is not easily visible.
Epoxy, polyurethane, and siloxane-based coatings made of polymers are frequently used to prevent corrosion. But protection from these coatings only lasts as long as they are spotless. Defects like scratches, chips and even microscopic pinholes allow enough water and chemicals to get in, which can cause corrosion. If the coating is broken, the insulation on top of it, together with any corrosion-promoting chemicals, can trap the water and cause CUI.
Akzo Nobel N.V., PPG Industries, Inc., Jotun A/S (Norway), The Sherwin-Williams Company, Hempel A/S, and Kansai Paint Co., Ltd are a few major players in the corrosion under insulation and spray-on insulation coatings market
