Growing innovation in mice models serve to be an important market driving factor:
Global mice model market was valued at USD 1,143.0 Million in 2020 and projected to reach US$ 1,733.7 Million by 2027 owing to increasing demand for effective therapeutic drugs, growing incidences of chronic disorders, growing R&D expenditure in the pharmaceutical & biopharmaceutical industry, research activities of the diseases that are rare, investments for research in laboratories and institutes and many other potential factors expected to drive the market over the forecast period. A few of the prominent factors impelling the market growth are increasing intake of personalized medicine, increasing cancer patients, growing innovation in mice models, increasing demand for humanized mice models and growing investments and physiological resemblances between human and mice. Increasing monoclonal antibody production gives creates growth opportunities for the market. Inbred mice records huge market revenue share in global mice model market and is expected to grow over the forecast period 2021-2027. The Genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) are significantly contributing in the field of cancer research. Emerging new technologies and strategies such as GEMM‐ESC (embryonic stem cells) for rapid introduction of additional genetic modifications and subsequent production of chimeric mice with an additional genetic modifications and successful usage in validation of candidate drug targets, assess therapy efficacy, and evaluate mechanisms of drug resistance are the major factors expected to bolster the GEMM segment over the forecast period.
Global Mice Model Market – Research Insights & Scientific Findings:
The report has covered detailed analysis of mice models which have been using in COVID-19 diseases treatment preclinical studies. The report highlights the drawbacks of existing mice models for COVID-19 infection studies and also provides strategic initiatives, research and development activities and mice model launches specific to Corona virus research studies etc.
Mouse Models: One of the best mouse models used for COVID-19 is the K18-hACE2 transgenic mouse. A transgene of human ACE2 (hACE2) expression is driven into the mouse epithelial cells under the control of the human cytokeratin 18 (K18) promoter. K18-hACE2 mice when treated with doses of SARS-CoV (2.3 × 104 PFU) that induced severe lung damage and neuronal damage of CNS in transgenic mice. But it did not induce CNS pathology in nontransgenic mice. The transgenic mice showed replication of the virus in the lungs, had weight loss, and developed pathological lung inflammation, and died at 4 days post-infection. However, a recent study showed that SARS-CoV-2 can infect K18- hACE2 mice in a transgene-dependent manner. SARS-CoV-2 at 105 TCID50 caused weight loss, evoked antibody responses, and developed histological evidence of lung inflammation in a K18-hACE2 transgene-dependent manner with interstitial congestion, inflammatory exudate, epithelial damage, etc.. Additional transgenic mouse strains have been developed to express hACE 2 using various promotors.
- HFH4-ACE2 transgenic mice developed using the human HFH4 promoter,
- AC70 transgenic mice developed using CAG promoter, and mouse ACE2 promoter-driven hACE2 Tg mice using mouse ACE2 promoter.
The above ACE2 transgenic mice models are expected to be useful to study on SARS-CoV-2 replication in the lungs and its pathogenesis.
- An adeno-associated virus (AAV) delivery based mouse model that expresses the SARS-CoV-2 receptor in the mouse lungs was developed to study SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis. The model was a more efficient and rapid, and reproducible murine model for SARS-CoV-2.
The limitations are that this model artificially expresses ACE2 in non-relevant cell types in the mouse respiratory system making pathology and immune response data hard to interpret in the situation of human SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, this model can be suitable for drug therapy and antibody testing.
North America to be served as the huge market revenue share obtainer in global mice model market:
North America recorded a huge CAGR and is anticipated to grow during the forecast duration. This region witnesses high growth owing to the factors such as increasing cancer frequency, emerging big pharmaceutical sectors and increasing adoption of mice models. Canada and U.S are two crucial economies of this region lead towards the growth of this region. Asia Pacific contributed significant market share during the predicted period owing to the factors like less stringent regulations on using animal models, increasing pharmaceutical & biotechnology R&D activities and several international players present in the region.
